Melnor traveling sprinkler

A nice imaginative cast iron travelling lawn sprinkler.  The company is still around making sprinkler systems including a travelling device though not as nice as this one.

I remember being fascinated by my neighbour's one of these.

If you look carefully, you can see that the leading wheel is actually pulley-shaped. The homeowner would lay out the garden hose in the pattern they wanted the sprinkler to move, then saddle it with that front wheel. The sprinkler would then slowly walk the length of the hose back toward the house. The water sprayer was a revolving two-arm wand, attached where that black stub is at the rear. The wands could be angled to create a greater or smaller spray area.

I'm pretty sure I've seen these still for sale online, although modernised. Also probably lighter - these were HEAVY.

It was a great idea that worked well. Just a simple mechanical device, No electronics or anything else to break down. And the tractor aesthetic is perfect.
