For anyone who enjoys mechanical work, no pleasure compares to that of having a lathe. It gets you out of so many pickles. Mine's a Myford ML7.
I don't understand how the Paterson improvement brings the tool back to the
"exact position" to restart the thread cut. A small accessory called a thread
dial-indicator can do that.

Yeah i can't figure it out by the text either. I can also find no evidence it was ever put into production.
As for owning a lathe. When you need a lathe... you need a lathe! I don't use mine a lot, but I wouldn't be without it.
