Sidecar Sunday/Machine Gun Monday

WW1 Vickers-Clyno Machine Gun Motorcycle. These things look like they might be fun to play with, but to actually go to war with one, no thanks...

You have to wonder about the tactical thinking behind these, and what these poor, heroic bastards thought of it...

I agree! Mobile machine gun platform seems like a good idea, but the driver is never given any protection, it wouldn't be mobile for long!

Always interesting how you can get a 20 year old to do anything and an old guy says screw that. Yea that's why they want young guys and not old in the war machine. Can you imagine trying to hit anything on a motorcycle racing across no mans land?

You guys aren't kidding. The only effective maneuver I can think of is having these mixed in with tanks and the whole lot in a full frontal charge. So the odds of living through this would be, well, they wouldn't be good! But it would probably scare the crap out of the enemy. But trying to hit something while bounding up and down mostly dirt fields and roads? Odds of that happening would be about nil. Mounting a flame thrower - now THAT'S an idea! lol. Except you'd have to drive slow!

The machine guns were never meant to be fired whilst the motorcycle was going along. They would be deployed to a location, engage there and then move to another place.

Not fired while driving? Well - there's always a party pooper out there. That sure takes all of the fun out of it.
