Below Decks - Gregory Manchess

Not the usual fare here at Progress is fine... but the subject matter caught my eye, there has to be a story about why a U boat, Stuka in a dogfight and otters come together in a painting.  Sadly I still haven't found an explanation but if the painting caught your eye,  more here.

It looks like a Stuka but why the yellow star( with white edging?) insignia. I can't seem to find an airforce that used that in WW2. It might explain the context of the painting better if it could be figured out.And why the scuba gear?

The style reminds me of the religious iconography they were peddling in the jesuit schools of my youth. Critical questions were not kindly looked upon.

Looking at his other work, he does a lot of fantasy stuff, like the mountain climber in leather aviator hat with polar bear pack train. I decided it's just best to appreciate the incredible technique and brushwork and invent my own story to explain it.

Oh,Fantasy. That explains it, I guess I should have looked at his other work! Oh well. That's what I get for taking life too seriously.
