This one is different, these images of a minature or salesman's sample Stephen's lever vise were found on Ebay (sorry, it's already sold). It's an unusual action, move the lever back and pull the jaws open, insert object, push closed and then, pulling the lever tightens and locks the jaws. The vise is subject of a number of late 1800s patents, one from 1864 here. (illustration below) Discussion on the vise at Iforgeiron.com and (late breaking news) another one currently unsold on ebay.
