Streetcars for export

PCC Streetcars of the Toronto Transit Commission being loaded onto ships heading for use in Alexandria, Egypt in 1966. I wonder if they're still being used. Previous post.

Mr. G! Why do you do this to me? All too often, you make this type of statement: "I wonder if they're still being used." And instead of just moving on, you challenge me to spend--meaning WASTING-- time finding an answer. Thankfully for this I didn't have to spend so much time to know. And in the process I also learned some other useless but nevertheless interesting details.
But most important, thank you for entertaining me today.

Beats the fate of a lot of others, when they became obsolete:

I have seen pictures of obsolete cars stacked up and being burned. very sad.
Sorry Anon, i wondered briefly if the cars were still working and then wondered why the TTC was disposing of some perfectly good cars. Never found that info, the replacement CLRC cars didn't arrive till the late 70s.
And... So... after all that, you didn't say if they are still working:-)

Sorry, Mr G.. The answer is in Wikipedia: "Alexandria acquired 140 used Toronto PCC streetcars in 1968, but all retired in 1984."
