with apologies to Ogden Nash...
Easily someone's great-great grandmother by my count !Don't mean to make you feel old, Mr G ... ;-)
On watercraft 'H.M.S.' would stand for 'His Majesty's Ship' but what does it mean on a despatch rider's helmet?
The picture is fake, you just have to look at the clean shoes, it's just for time life magazin
Honor Blackman was a dispatch rider in London during WWII. Fifteen years old and she loved it. She said that the sound of the engine drowned out the sound of the incoming doodlebugs.A motorcyclist all her life.
Fake? Staged for sure... HMS , possibly His Majesty's Service?
Thanks, JP. sigh...
Another shot, in front of the Palace:https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/XVEAAOSwUy5kVof5/s-l1600.webp
RN on the bike's tank = royal navy, so that ties in with the hms on the helmet.
Aha! I had seen the 'RN' but didn't make the connection.
