Ancestor of the P47 Thunderbolt

Although the P-35 was already obsolete as it was introduced, it was the first American all-metal single-seat fighter to also feature retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit. The Seversky company changed its name to Republic in 1939 and later produced the successful  P47 Thunderbolt.
