In 1919, a year after WW1 ended and Alcock and Brown had made their prizewinning west to east crossing in their Vickers Vimy, the Atlantic was crossed twice more by the British airship R-34. The trip from Scotland to New York took about 108 hours. Taking advantage of favorable tradewinds, the return trip was only 75 hours, demonstrating a lighter-than-air crafts big disadvantage.
