Five minute Ice spud

What to do with an abused scrap axehead...?
I couldn't bring myself to throw it out, but 5 minutes of welding and I have the sharpest ice spud I ever had.

What exactly is an 'ice spud'? Are they good with all kinds of meat? Do you salt and pepper them? I am assuming they are grown in Canada and not Idaho? And where does the 'ice' come in? Cheers from Arizona!

Sorry, I hadn't realized it was a colloquialism! I started checking, my wife had never heard the word, an outdoorsy friend in Manitoba wasn't familiar with it... Interesting!
