Designed by the French company Turbomeca, the Palouste was a device to supply air under pressure to start jet engines. Blackburn was one of the companies to obtain a license to manufacture it. Google Translate wasn't much help on the translation of the name...

"Palouste" doesn't translate into anything. An earlier Turbomeca turboshaft
engine was named "Artouste", the name of a lake and ski resort in the Pyrenees
region where the works are located. Palouste might be a still more obscure place name. Air starters are also called "huffers", or so I read.
