Erie Railroad introduces the screw spike, 1949

I had never heard of this innovation so I guess it never caught on.
In 1960, the Erie merged with the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad to form the Erie Lackawanna Railroad. 16 years later it would become part of Conrail.
