A good friend worked on Pratt and Whitney Wasp Majors while in the Air Force during the Korean War. He found it anything but thankless.
Needless to say he's a hero of mine.

looking at these engines at museums, I think most of where you had to get a wrench was inaccessible. Not a thanksless job but nearly endless!
