I wonder why the painter named the motorcyclist 'driver' rather than rider.

I wondered that. Semantics, I think.
Here in Ontario, Canada it's common to for people to use "drive" in regards to a motorcycle, and yet I've seen rants on the internet, insisting, frothing-at-the-mouth for the exclusive use of "ride". But this was done 90 years ago. i'll keep my ears open for any explanation.
