Back when I was a kid using my father's brace and bit and hand drill, it occurred to me that this idea was something the world needed. These days, I'm happy with cordess drills, spade bits etc. Progress IS fine.
I've used these for installing big fasteners (TimberLok etc) on trail work projects - braces still are relevant sometimes! They have a shocking amount of torque!
I've made a couple of these with different chucks. The 4-side tangs on mine come from beat up/dull yard-sale auger bits with the right size shaft to fit the threaded hole in the chuck. I cut the bits to a reasonable length, discard the auger end, and thread the cutoff shaft to the right tpi. I call these things "Frankenchucks".
