We used to make things in this country #366 Gale Buccaneer

Gale was a postwar subsidiary of Outboard Marine Corporation who built Johnson and Evinrude outboard motors. Prewar, the company had built a line of air conditioners an refrigerators that had never really taken off so that manufacturing was phased out to clear the decks for outboard motor production. The new division built motors for department and hardware stores and as such, always advertised as being a few horsepower down on the comparable OMC products. They were built in Galesburg Illinois and for the Canadian market, Peterborough Ontario. By the early sixties, OMC had decided that the Gale name had outlived its usefulness and the division was shut down in 1964.  Whole company history here

Thanks, John!
