I can understand why. If you're a dood that prefers to spend time in the garage, having something to pound on is handy. I have a 16" of railroad track that was passed down from my grandfather to my dad to me and I wear it out. However now and then a small thing comes up and getting that #40 track out is inconvenient so I used the tiny anvil on the back of my vise. For real light stuff I've been known to pound on the top of the jaw.
