The mid eighties saw a brief explosion of experimental engine configurations, the four Japanese manufacturers all tried turbochargers and also, shown here, GP replica 2 stroke engine replicas. The Yamaha was the first in 1984, quickly eclipsed by the Suzuki RG500 and finally came the NS400 Honda. The 400 was probably the best bike, being that it was much more civilized and only vaguely resembled the GP bike. The Suzuki, was the most accurate replica. It was fast, fragile and remains the most desireable. All were too expensive and didn't sell.
