L. Coes wrench


Loring Coes invented this form of screw-adjustable wrench. He got his initial patent in 1841, Fig 2 in the drawing below shows the previous Merrill patent wrench, which required two hands to adjust. By the 1880s, Loring was focusing on refinement of the handle construction. More info on the Loring company and tools at Alloy Artifacts.

I have one,the reverse side is a hammer,so that's mostly what I use it for.

Yeah, monkey wrenches are kinda useless when it comes to modern 6 sided nuts.
