Before home computers, there were typewriters. Actually, not many homes had typewriters, which were primarily a business machine. I took a typing course in high school, which I believe was one of the most useful learning experiences of my time there. When I started university, you could still submit essays and projects written in long hand, but typewritten was preferred. While most of my classmates had to pay to have their work typed, I could easily bang away on my own typewriter and save those dollars for purchases like food.
