The modern design, by the prolific American artist Edward McKnight Kauffer, underlines the impact electric rail travel was having on urban life in the 1930s. The bold image unites man and electric machines as the powerful driving forces behind London's Underground.

I read somewhere (today) that it seems to be doing so - via solar panels - despite various folks' insistence that oil an' gas is the way to go. See also small-scale hydro and wind... D.
I’m sure they were referring to coal fired generation, but yes solar seems to be finally signicant, (though I like to say I only use my lights at night)
