Early Disc brake experiments, Lockheed Lyster
What I find interesting about this setup is the way the disc is surrounded by the hub. Maybe they were concerned about getting maximum hub width for the spoke pattern?

Lawson patent pipe wrench
From Patent: 1,362,014 ;
The adjustable jaw passes through a slot in the shank, with the adjusting knurl in a second slot at right angles. The patent describes "C" springs inside the adjusting knurl which act to hold the adjustment, but these springs aren't found in known examples. Improved by Lawson's Nov. 5, 1929 patent (no. 1,734,734). The form is very similar to the FRANKLIN pipe wrench as produced by Eaton, Cole and Burnham (patent no. 345,777). There were several manufacturers of this Lawson patent pipe wrench; U.S. Hame Co. who made this one, Fairmount Tool and Forging, Lawson Mfg, Co and USHCO Mfg.Co.

Serious business
1917, Aeronautical students learn to work on a Hall-Scott airplane engine. On the right, behind Mr. Personality are the tools of the trade, big wrenches- and lots of hammers.
Triumph tough
Back to the motorcycle, it's "Hand picked by experts.."

Picnicking by Seabee...
Looks idyllic.... but the airplane seats three. Hmmm.
Republic made and sold just over one thousand of these in 1946-47 before ceasing production. It's estimated about 250 are still flying and possibly picnicking.
