On the Level: Sand's Level & Tool Company, Detroit, Michigan




Julius Sand was a Detroit bricklayer and in 1895 invented the Sands type of "Solid Set" vials. He also originated the aluminum type level to offer a lightweight level for the tradesman.  He took out a U.S. patent with his son in 1914:
In 2005 Kraft Tool Co. acquired Sands Level and Tool from Harmon Inc.

That is my 2nd great grandfather. His sons had to sell the business in the late 1920s

25 years is a pretty good run. I have an aluminum level 28 in from Detroit that says "Sands Levels" "Tell The Truth"
I really like the tell the truth part.
