It looks like something cobbled together from old washing machine parts.

Since this encyclopedia included material from the Modern Home Medical Adviser going back to 1935, these photos may be earlier than 1970. Still, we've clearly come a long way. For one thing, nurses no longer have to wear goofy hats.
