St Louis Car Company
The St Louis Car company of St. Louis, Missouri built mainly passenger railway equipment like streetcars, subway cars, passenger cars and cabooses during the time they were in business, from 1887 to 1974. Although they were formed expressly to build streetcars, like many large manufacturing operations, they tried their hand at other vehicle-related products like automobiles at the beginning of the 20th Century, gliders, aircraft and armoured vehicles during the war and later trolley buses. After the war, the company began to feel the effects of the trend from streetcars to buses and in 1960 became part of General Steel Industries. Although they continued to build subway trains for both domestic and international markets the company ceased operations in 1974.
