I found this toy in a Camden, Maine antique store. Oddly the thing that attracted me was the S-M hubcaps. The truck is in good condition with most of its paint intact, though the bed is missing.
Smith-Miller Toys was founded in 1945 in Santa Monica, California, and stayed in business for about 10 years. When the company ceased production some time in the mid-1950’s the factory sat complete but defunct for a little over 23 years before being located and then purchased by an L.A. resident named Fred Thompson who was looking for parts for the toys he had enjoyed as a kid. More of the story here. He then started the company up again and happy to say, the company is still around today making quality modern truck toys.
