Pullman travel on the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton RR



A glimpse into the life of early twentieth Century capitalists. It seems life is pretty good...
The railway was completed in 1851. By the end of the 19th century it controlled 640 miles of track, was beginning to get overwhelmed by volume of business and was bought by the B&O in 1909.

What do you make of the objects in the wire carrier overhead? A mini-wheelbarrow with "Wing Shot Oriental Powder Mills" and a ... a ... is it a giant topee? A bucket?

I thought maybe a gun case, and is that a giant acorn beside it? The trappings of rich travelers:-)

Gun case, ah, right! -- and I think its fellow traveler must be a pith helmet to cool the 800-pound gorilla's head (not shown).
