Motorcycle assembly at Matchless

Bill Cakebread, Motorcycle Apprentice, Matchless - In Name & Reputation, Veloce Publishing, 2008

The caption suggested this is a posed photograph as the production line was never this tidy!

Bill Cakebread's book is a look at a working man's life in the British motorcycle industry in the 1960s. Good read.

Below is the back of the factory taken from Maxey Road in London. The large building behind is the Woolwich Arsenal, both buildings are long demolished and the area would be unrecognizable to the photographer.

An interesting book if you can get ahold of it.
One thing about the last pic, which cannot conveyed by your tiny phone screen, is how the factory absolutely LOOMS over the residences in the foreground.

I don’t get it. In this picture taken from Maxy Road, the street seems to be pointing downhill. On Google Streetview it’s flat.
