Spraker valve grinding tool

thanks, Ski!

Here's a hand operated valve lapping tool, as the crank is turned, the star wheel engages one, then the other pin on the shaft, giving a back and forth rotating action for valve lapping action. It's similar to another device in an older post here.

Thanks for posting this, Mr. G. My grandfather had a similar valve lapping tool that I used to play with when I was a kid. He said he used it for lapping valves on airplane engines in the 20’s and 30’s. I always wondered how it worked but knew I’d get in trouble if I took it apart back then.

I've used the suction-cup style on small engines (probably more to clean than actually lap) and I've looked at a bunch of these tools online and they all seem to have different tips. Other than a Sioux with a suction-cup attachment I can't for the life of me visualize how they grip the face of the valve. What am I missing?

I’ve seen a head with two pins, to fit valves with similar holes also a slot in the face, (looked as though it was turned with a coin)
