Monday Mystery, Hand Drill

Here's a very nice two-pinion hand drill type of tool with a cast handle and... some sort of a non drilling end. Any guesses?
I'm sure the kids could commandeer the tool for playing submachine guns...

The half circle gear would make the business end spin left - then right, so not a drill. Blowed if I know...

Valve lapping tool ?

yeah, it's a valve lapping tool. the 2 pins on the business end are from a time when valves came with holes for these tools. I've never seen one like this, the ones I have are designed to just crank the handle in one direction and the gearbox does the reversing of rotation.

I looked again, clever! the half gear on the crank only engages one pinion at a time and so it reverses every half turn

That's cool. It's fate was to be replaced by a stick with a suction cup lol.
