I can't really visualize how it works without using it, but I'm sure it works perfectly well. From comments online, it sounds like finding the right kind of wire is an important part of it.
And they wanted too much money to buy to play with it.
Well thanks to you if I ever come across one in a flea market dollar-bin I won't mistake it for a very worn-out grinding wheel dresser.
