Shield Brand Drills, Standard Tool Co.

Tand, Evere, Ervice, it took me a minute to realize the full page high S of the word Shield also applied to other words in this 1921 ad for Standard Tool drill bits- not great graphic design.
The Duke covered the Standard Drill Bit company in an earlier post. The ad explains why the logo on the drill bit consists of the company name on a shield background.

Mido "Ocean Star" wrist watch, 1961

Continental Holiday.  The American Travel Guide to Europe.  New York, 1961.

Curiously for a Swiss watch company, the name comes from the Spanish, "Yo mido", "I measure."  Founded in 1918, the company is still going, now a part of the Swatch Group.

One of my vices is vises, Little Giant #27

I can't find much info on Little Giant vices but from the indispensible Vintage Machinery site comes this tidbit.
A 1904 catalog of B. B. Noyes & Co. reads, "Manufacturers of 'Little Giant' blacksmiths' drills, foot vises, etc." and also says on the cover, "Wells Brothers Company / Sales Agents / Greenfield, Mass., U.S.A."
