I talked to a guy who installed lightning arresters and suppressors professionally. In his contract there is a clause stating that there’s no guarantee that a works 100% of the time. He told me lightning does what it wants to. All he was doing was trying to coax it in to somewhere that it didn’t destroy something important. Basically lightning is an “act of God”.

I remember every farm house and barn had lightning rods on them. Don’t see that so much anymore.
