The ad doesn't mention it, but this portable radio must have been transistor rather than tube. They are very proud of the antenna in the handle. Info is light on this model and the Zenith Wikipedia page barely mentions radios. However it does report that the company was taken over by LG (formerly Goldstar) in 1995.

According to radiomuseum.org , the Carnival Z402 uses 4 tubes (valves, to British readers) and, when not plugged in, 7.5 and 90 volt batteries. It was only $34.95. Zenith wanted $75 for their tubeless, all transistor Royal 500.
