The SK had been built to test high speed and high-loading wing concepts and was based on the smallest possible airframe that could be based around the 1050 hp Klimov M105 V12. It was flown for the first time in January 1940. By December 1940 the program was done and the learned info distributed around the USSR aviation industry.

Visibility to the front would be an issue with the cockpit fully enclosed in the fuselage.
