On display at a local museum. I have no idea what it was designed to do.

It's a "duster" used to apply insecticide and fungicide to fruit trees. There's a squirrel cage fan in the left half, turned by the crank, and a hopper to hold the "dust" that is sent through the nozzle on the right. I am absolutely sure that no operator of this device ever inhaled or came in contact with the toxic material, because there are clearly no government warning stickers plastered on every square inch of the device.
