Bultaco Astros at Davenport, Iowa

The Bultaco Astro was a production flat tracker made by the Spanish motorcycle company from 1972 to 1978. In total about 3000 were made. Like most Bultacos, they were beautiful to look at and the distinctive later paint scheme was only a bonus. For awhile they dominated, but like all racers they eventually became obsolete and were re-engined or retired and generally disappeared from the scene.
However, a few years ago an ex-racer named Art Randall came up with the idea of forming a race series for these old bikes (The Bultaco Astro Cup) and it has been gaining in popularity. They were out in force at the Davenport Vintage flat track on August 30 2019. It was great to take pictures in the pits and all I can say is one Astro is nice but lots of Astros is much better!
