The Sea Lion III was one of Britain's entries for the Schneider Cup in 1923, held at Cowes on the south coast of England. Both the British entires were powered by 450 hp Napier Lion engines.
This was the beginning of a new era for the series, The US government backed the Curtis CR-3 floatplanes and the days of the flying boats as racers were disappearing. The British finished a distant second to The Curtiss CR-3.
