Paul Jaray (1889–1974) was the first and a most important pioneer of aerodynamics for automobiles. His friend, Hans Erni, designed this drawing in 1935 to illustrate the schematic representation of laminar and turbulent flow. It was used in several publications at the time.

Erni seems to have left out any turbulence at the base of the windscreen of the aero model.
