Did people keep them as a collector item, I wonder?
List price seems ridiculously cheap. In Canada in1982 average income was about $30k per year. Assume the lower prices in the US and the 25-30% exchange rate, it's still much less than a 1/2 year income.

I remember I paid about the same, maybe a little more (for some reason a "7" is stuck in my head) in 1982, for a 1982 Dodge Aries K. I just had to have the 2.2 liter OHC engine with a four-on-the-floor and front-wheel-drive, which was all the rage back then.
But I bet if I got the Jeep I would have had a girlfriend.
Yeah, Dave, I agree. With the Jamboree, not only would you have had a girlfriend, she would have been a great one, because she'd have fully appreciated the "setting California sun, steaks and beers and bonfires, and days-end stories of negotiating the treacherous obstacles that punctuate the trail."
What caught my eye is this: "For Guys Who Take Their Fun Seriously." Would ad copy writers include such a male oriented sentence today for a 4x4 sporty vehicle?
I'll take this opportunity to point out my, girlfriend from 1984 to 1988 bought herself a CJ-7. And I remember well the good times that girlfriend--and her Jeep--provided. And, although I didn't collect her, she truly was a collector's item. LOL.
