Lockheed C-5
The C-5 was a large military transport first flown in 1968, shown here in a cutaway by Gene Thomas for Air Progress magazine March 1971. Though there had been troubles with the program and with the wing structure, one hundred thirty one were built, forty five have been retired. There was also a passenger version of the C-5 which would have carried 1000 passengers but no orders were taken, possibly as a result of competition from the recently introduced Boeing 747.
