I'd never heard of this company or brand. The drill bit looked brand new, so I assumed it was probably some offshore-brand. A quick google search proved otherwise.

Vanished Tool Makers: International Twist Drill Company (Intal), Sheffield, England
I recently picked up some drill bits, which included this 5/16" one marked only "Intal."
I'd never heard of this company or brand. The drill bit looked brand new, so I assumed it was probably some offshore-brand. A quick google search proved otherwise.
Intal was the brand name for the International Twist Drill Company, founded in 1916. It's main factory was located at the Intal Works on Watery Street in Sheffield. During World War II, it continued to make drilling tools, expanding production by six times its prewar level. By the early 1960's, the company employed about 800 people making twist drills, milling cutters, reamers and precision cutting tools. It closed its doors in the early 1980's and the factory was eventually demolished, its lot used as an extension for Fletchers bakeries.

Intal was an great International drill manufacturing company in Sheffield . This company became popular however, it was stopped production in 1980.
