Development at Roadless
These are two pictures of the original Roadless tracked conversions for farm tractors, I guess the large diameter wheels were considered to be important to the concept, but the tractors must have had a tendency to rear up and to pitch fore and aft. Later development- the extended track version- included an extra idler.

I suspect the large wheels were to compensate for the extremely low gear ratio on a wheel tractor with 4'-5' tall wheels. If the sprocket size was similar to more modern crawlers the machine would barely move along even in high gear.
That makes sense!
