Gloster Javelin

Gloster produced the only Allied jet to fly actual combat missions in WW2. Soon after the war submissions for the Meteors successor were put out, this is the entry by Gloster. The plane was under development for years while the details of the delta wing were sorted out and it was finally introduced (still evolving) in 1956. Exciting times in aviation.

It was not quite capable of the speed of sound but it was Britain's all weather interceptor till it was replaced by the English Electric Lightning. 430 Javelins were built and the last one was retired in April 1968.
