Bessey vise fail

This largely unworn 6" Bessey vise was being thrown out at work. Take it away, they said. The screw assembly had broken so the jaws did not open. The swivel base would have needed to be removed to see what was required, I had no tools handy, it weighs 44 lbs, I don't need a vise project or even another vise. Sadly I left it there. Regrets.

Might have been useful as an anvil with that large flat surface?

If the screw turns and the vise doesn't open but you can pull the jaw open, flip it over and look for a missing E-clip or pin that should be in a groove or a bore in the screw in front of a washer under the outer jaw. This is what pushes the jaw open...other than on the Wiltons et al it's usually (nowadays) a pretty light-duty setup and they do sometimes fall out.

I didn't have the chance to check the mechanism but I did think it might have been very repairable.
