Here's an old Marples branded vise. The company is more known for its chisels and we don't have an accurate way to determine the age of the vise, perhaps its a product of the 1962 acquisition of the company by the Record Tool Company and William Ridgway.

Marples Shamrock steel bench vises appear as early as the 1938 Marples catalog, so we can safely say "pre-war" overall. The face of the vise in your pics looks to me like a 1950's model 4682, if I had to guess.
Speaking of Record and Marples, wouldn't you love to come across one of these one day?

Thanks, Dave! We thought it looked older than the sixties. The tail vice is beautiful, Unless you chanced upon a new one one in a box and could afford it, I expect the only way they would turn up is attached to an expensive old work bench, in which case you might just have to buy the whole thing.:-)
