Bricklayer's protractor

Degrees of angle and an ~8" inch ruler. A useful pocket tool, and a promotional item by the Brazil Clay brick company.

Brazil Clay Company was established at Brazil, Indiana in 1905. Their main product was “impervious face brick,” meaning bricks to be used on the face of buildings. The company lasted at least into the 1960s but is not forgotten, there is a Facebook group for Brazil brick collectors. Bottom images,  another promotional item, found on ebay.

Back to the device, around the pivot there is a patent number for the device which I can't read and a company name, possibly H&P (possibly St Paul Mn).

I found the patent just by dumb luck when I was trying to figure out if it had an actual bricklaying function or was just an advertising piece:

Looks like just an advertising piece as there are others on eBay with different, unrelated company names stamped on the hub. There is also a Brazil Clay Brick-embossed plastic pie server on eBay.

Amazing and thanks! I wondered the same thing, “bricklayers protractor” didn’t bring much up in a search. When I saw the manufacturers name on it and the promotional matchbox… Now I wonder why a brick company is targeting housewives, homeowners etc. there also seem to be Brazil Brick postcards etc.. management was having lots of fun.
