Matra Sports MS80

Nick Brittan (Editor).  Motor Racing.  The International Way Number 1.  London:  Kaye & Ward Ltd., 1970.
Powered by a Ford Cosworth engine, the car used aviation-inspired structural fuel tanks. These allowed the chassis to be around 15 kg (33 lb) lighter, while still being stronger than its competitors. The FIA considered the technology to be unsafe and decided to ban it for 1970.

In a 2006 issue of Motor Sport magazine, Jackie Stewart referred to the MS80 as the nicest-handling F1 car he had ever driven.

Peugeot acquired Matra Sports in 1979.
