"Hammond" Typewriter, 1888

The Hammond Typewriter Company existed, more or less, between 1880 and 1926.  The founder and inventor, James Hammond, died in 1913 and left control of his company in trust for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Somehow this didn't happen.  To read the full story, visit OzTypewriter.
