Yacht Defender, 1895

A Herreshoff design for the 1895 America's Cup. These boats were magnificent, this one is 123 feet in length with 12,600 square feet of sail. Note the man aloft (below). After the contest, she was docked for three years till the next contest. After being refitted for the racing trials, it returned to dock and was broken up in 1901.
